Meetings
One-on-one meeting template
A running board for a manager and report: topics, feedback, goals and follow-ups.
What it is
A one-on-one is a regular private meeting between a manager and one person on their team. This board stays open between meetings. Both people add topics during the week, feedback gets written down and follow-ups carry over to the next meeting.
When to use it
- For weekly or fortnightly check-ins with each person you manage
- To talk about growth and career between formal reviews
- For mentoring, with a mentor and mentee in place of manager and report
How to run it
- 01
Add topics during the week
Both people drop notes into their own frame when something comes up. The report's topics go first in the meeting.
- 02
Write feedback down
Note feedback in both directions in a sentence or two. It is much easier to look back on in three months.
- 03
Agree on follow-ups
Before you finish, write who does what before next time in the Follow-ups frame.
- 04
Keep one board per person
Reuse the same board every time and start each meeting by checking last time's follow-ups.
