Kanban board template
To do, in progress, review and done, with cards you drag across as work moves.
What it is
A kanban board shows work as cards moving through columns, here To do, In progress, Review and Done. Anyone can see what is in flight and where work piles up.
When to use it
- To run a small project without a separate task tool
- In standups, walking the board from Done back to To do
- When work sits in review for days and nobody notices
How to run it
- 01
List the work
Put every task on its own sticky note in To do. Keep each one small enough that someone can finish it in a few days.
- 02
Limit work in progress
Agree on a maximum for In progress, such as two cards per person, and write it in the frame title.
- 03
Move cards as the work moves
Drag a note into the next frame when its status changes. Use the sticky colour for the kind of work, so bugs stand out from features.
- 04
Clean up every week
Clear out Done, look at the card that sat longest and split anything that has not moved since the last review.
