User persona template
A one-page profile of a target user: goals, frustrations, habits and a quote.
What it is
A user persona is a short profile of a typical user, based on research. It gives them a name, a role and a quote, and lists their goals, frustrations and habits. When the team disagrees about a feature, it can ask what this person would do.
When to use it
- After interviews, to share what you learned on one page
- When a team builds for "everyone" and gets lost in edge cases
- To bring new designers, writers or developers up to speed
How to run it
- 01
Start from research
Base every note on interviews, support tickets or analytics. A persona made up in a meeting is a guess with a name.
- 02
Fill the profile
Add a name, a role and two sentences about their day. Skip details that would not change a product decision.
- 03
Add goals, frustrations and habits
Two or three notes each, in the user's own words where you have them.
- 04
Pick a quote
Choose one line from an interview that sums the person up. It is the part people will remember.
