User interview notes template
Capture each interview as quotes, observations and problems, then compare them side by side.
What it is
This board collects what you heard in each user interview in the same four columns: quotes, observations, problems and ideas. With one row per participant, you can see at a glance when three people describe the same problem.
When to use it
- During a round of customer or user interviews
- When several people take notes and you want them in one place
- As raw material for an affinity map
How to run it
- 01
Add a row per participant
Label each row with a code and a role, like "P1, sales". Leave real names out.
- 02
Take notes during the call
One person asks the questions and another types into the row. Write quotes word for word.
- 03
Keep problems and ideas apart
Problems are what the person struggles with. Ideas are fixes someone suggested. An idea with no problem behind it rarely survives.
- 04
Compare across rows
After the last interview, read each column top to bottom and mark the problems that come up more than once.
