Product roadmap template
Quarters across, themes down, so everyone sees what ships when and why.
What it is
A product roadmap shows what a team plans to build and roughly when. This board has quarters across the top and themes down the side, so each note is a piece of work in one theme and one quarter.
When to use it
- For quarterly planning with product, design and engineering
- To show leadership or customers where the product is heading
- When requests pile up and you need a reason to say no
How to run it
- 01
Pick the themes
Choose three to five areas of the product, like editor, collaboration or billing, and write them down the left.
- 02
Place the work
Put each initiative in the quarter you aim for. Keep notes further out vaguer than the ones close by.
- 03
Check capacity
Count the notes per quarter. If one quarter has twice as many as the others, something has to move.
- 04
Share one link and keep it current
Send stakeholders a view link and update the board once a month. The link stays the same, so nobody reads an old copy.
