PESTLE analysis template
Political, economic, social, technological, legal and environmental factors in six frames.
What it is
A PESTLE analysis looks at six kinds of outside forces that can affect a business or a plan. The letters stand for political, economic, social, technological, legal and environmental. You can't control any of them, but you can plan around them.
When to use it
- Before you enter a new country, city or market
- As input for a SWOT analysis, to fill in opportunities and threats
- In yearly strategy planning, to check what has changed outside the company
How to run it
- 01
Name the plan and the place
Write one plan in one market in the title, like "E-bike rental in Hamburg". Without a place, the notes get vague.
- 02
Fill the six frames
Add notes under each letter. Stick to outside factors. Your own team and product belong in a SWOT.
- 03
Mark what matters
Colour the notes that would help or hurt the most, and the ones likely to change soon.
- 04
Decide what to do
For each marked note, write one action or one thing to watch. The rest can stay as background.
