Class brainstorm template
One question in the middle, every student adds a note, then the class groups them.
What it is
A class brainstorm puts one question at the top and asks every student to add an answer on a sticky note. Then the class groups similar notes and talks about what they show. Everyone writes before anyone speaks, so the quiet students get heard too.
When to use it
- To open a new topic and hear what students already think
- For a discussion in a hybrid or remote class
- When the same few students answer every question
How to run it
- 01
Write the question
Put one open question at the top, like "What makes a good friend?".
- 02
Everyone adds a note
Share the board link and give students three minutes to add one or two notes each.
- 03
Group the notes together
Ask the class to drag similar notes next to each other and give each group a name.
- 04
Talk about the groups
Discuss the biggest group and the odd one out. Keep the board and come back to it at the end of the unit.
